What Winchester actually did
The point isn't the building
At Winchester's Shihadeh Innovation Center, John Handley High School students take career and core academic classes together, and the division's goal is for every student to attend the center at least once. No outcome study has been published yet. The center has three academies (Professional Skills, Health Sciences, Advanced Technologies) in a renovated former elementary school, run in joint venture with Laurel Ridge Community College. The point is the universal design goal: every student, so there is no track and no sorting. The full Winchester story is here.
